Pawn Shops Donate Musical Instruments to Children of Joplin

WESLACO - The stories of the children in Joplin, Mo., which was hit by a massive tornado, struck a cord with the owners of a Hidalgo County business, leading to a donation that brought stores across the Valley together to help.

Miguel Duran is not a musician. He’s a pawnbroker, but he heard about the CHANNEL 5 NEWS fund-raiser and wanted to get involved.

"I think this is very important because a disaster like this can happen to any of us. It can happen in any part of the country,” says Duran.

From a trumpet to a saxophone, a guitar to a xylophone, EZ Pawns from all over the Valley donated 22 instruments to the children of Joplin.

"We want to be part of reconstructing their dreams again, and we want to be part of supporting their dreams,” says Duran.

Each store gave one instrument to the cause. It's a donation that will be music to the ears of children in Joplin.
